Science Fiction

Darkstar has been meeting every Thursday, give or take a few, since late 1978. In the mid 1980's the meetings were moved off the UCSD campus to the Miramar Road Denny's, This was due to the difficulty of consistently getting a room to meet on campus, and also the new policy of charging for parking in the evenings. Today the club still meets off campus, but the meetings are rotated amongst different restaurants in the area. People can meet at the designated restaurant at 7:30, or those who wish to carpool can meet at the Darkstar office at 6:45.

Darkstar is a social club, whose members enjoy the company of others with an interest in science fiction and fantasy. The club is open to all, and is not restricted to just UCSD students. The club has set up a number of mailing lists, one of which is for the online discussion of science fiction.

Besides our social dinners, the club usually plans one or two special events a quarter. In the past we have shown movies in the Price Center theater, gone on star watching trips, and sponsored guest speakers on campus. In addition to these scheduled events, club members also attend science fiction conventions and plan trips to see new movies. To find out what the club is planning, go and check out our calendar.

Many of our members read voraciously. (Who'da thunk?) We've gathered up a decent lending library, and you're welcome to borrow books to sate your own habit. If these don't suffice, head over to Mysterious Galaxy, San Diego's premier S.F. & Mystery bookstore. They'll probably have what you're looking for.
